More is Never Enough. - Recovering Alcoholic

Recovery Counseling and 12-Step Support

If you have a year or more of sobriety and you would like to deepen your recovery, counseling may be a good option. Your 12-Step work gives you the foundation you need to look at your life with honesty, clarity and compassion.

We turned to alcohol, drugs, food - really anything distracting or comforting - as a substitute for the comfort of a safe relationship. Maybe mom or dad also had an addiction. Or maybe they just didn't have the skill or awareness to teach you how to take care of yourself with love, kindness and respect. Maybe you felt shame for needing them.

Together, we can develop a deeper understanding of the roots of your addiction, and find compassion for all the ways you tried to cope, even the not so healthy ones. In the process, you may find a deep level of forgiveness for yourself and for the people who have harmed you. Along with this forgiveness, you may find a well of caring and love for yourself that heals the parts of you that might still be hurting.

Most people in recovery experience times of overwhelm, anxiety or depression, living life without any numbing agents. Sometimes in recovery, the addict or alcoholic becomes co-dependent, focusing on others to the detriment of oneself. These feelings and behaviors are signals that you have unmet needs. Together we can decode the messages your feelings and actions are sending you and find ways of giving yourself the very best care and love you can.
